2022 King Estate Eola Springs Pinot Gris
-
Tasting Notes
-
Aromas are of melon, grapefruit, lemon, ripe Bartlett pear, almond, white rose and a hint of apricot. On the palate flavors of honeydew melon, some stone fruit and citrus emerge, joined by Bartlett pear and wet stone on the finish. The body of this wine is weighty, fruity and floral. Notes of soft ripe fruit balance beautifully with bright acidity, resulting in a very enjoyable, versatile Pinot Gris.

Vineyard Notes
-
Eola Springs Vineyard, established in 1972, is located in Rickreall, Ore., just west of Salem in the Eola-Amity Hills sub-AVA of the Willamette Valley. At between 300 and 450 feet in elevation, the vineyard features a number of different soils, from silty deposits left by the great Missoula floods to Columbia River basalt. Diversity makes this vineyard tremendously complex with blocks varying by slope, aspect and soil. Sharp diurnal swings make for cool nights and warm to hot days during the growing season.

Winemaker Notes
-
The wine is whole cluster pressed, settled, racked (wine is drained off the lees that settle to the bottom of the tank), and fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. Aged sur lie in stainless steel for eight months with weekly bâtonnage, where the settled lees are stirred back into the wine to build texture and mouthfeel.
