2021 King Estate Kennel Chardonnay
-
Tasting Notes
-
This wine is a beautiful bouquet of fruit and floral notes with lovely accents from the oak barrel fermentation and aging. Flavors are of white peach and tropical fruits like papaya, lemon, pineapple and orange blossom, along with notes of crème brûlée, pecans, ginger flower, coconut, caramel and toast. Nice, bright acidity holds up the palate as the wine comes to a balanced and prolonged finish.

Vineyard Notes
-
Oregon Chardonnay is making a name for itself and this wine is one reason why. Grower Jeremy Kennel’s family has farmed in the Willamette Valley for five generations. Kennel Vineyard was established in 2007 and has been a King Estate vineyard partner since 2010. Comprising 28 acres, Kennel is considered a warm site, but benefits from coastal breezes and cool nights.

Winemaker Notes
-
The wine was whole cluster pressed and barrel fermented in French oak. Partial malolactic fermentation was in the large (454 liter) puncheon barrels followed by weekly bâtonnage, or stirring of the lees. Aged sur lie for 19 months in French oak puncheon barrels, 27% new.
