2021 King Estate Havlin Gruner Veltliner
-
Tasting Notes
-
Floral notes of white blossom and gardenia on the nose are followed by flavors of lemon curd, grapefruit, white peach, fresh pear, nectarine, pastry and cream. Bright and crisp acidity leads to rich, round textures on the palate, with creaminess from the sur lie aging and a lingering, balanced finish.

Vineyard Notes
-
King Estate is introducing its first-ever Grüner Veltliner with fruit from Havlin Vineyard in Dallas, Ore., just outside of Salem. The name is a combination of the word for green in German and a town in northern Italy where the grape is thought to have originated, Valtellina. Grüner Veltliner is the national grape of Austria, which produces 75% of the world’s crop. While very little is grown in Oregon, the grape thrives in Havlin’s cool climate and marine-sediment soils.

Winemaker Notes
-
The fruit was whole cluster pressed, with 78% fermented in stainless steel and 22% in neutral French oak barrels, followed by sur lie aging for eight months in stainless steel and neutral French oak.
