2019 North by Northwest Columbia Valley Red Blend
-
Tasting Notes
-
On the nose, discover aromas of black cherry, blackberry compote, cassis, rose petal, violet, cocoa nibs, tobacco, thyme, black pepper and anise. Rich and flavorful up front, the wine shows flavors of dark fruit like black cherry, blackberry, ripe plum and black currant. Complexity from the oak aging provides sturdy weight and depth on the mid-palate. The wine finishes with a balance of flavors, tannin and lingering nuance from the oak.

Vineyard Notes
-
North by Northwest was established by the King family in 2005 with the vision to handcraft varietally pure wines from the finest vineyards of eastern Oregon and Washington. This wine displays the features – fruit driven, flavorful, aromatic with balanced structure and distinctive character – that have helped establish the Columbia Valley as one of the world’s foremost wine grape growing regions.

Winemaker Notes
-
Whole clusters are destemmed and cold soaked for 48 hours with daily pump overs. Fermentation is in stainless steel open-top tanks with daily punch downs. For optimum flavor and tannin profile, the wine underwent délestage, also known as rack and return, followed by extended maceration. Aged 10 months on French and American oak, 20% new.
