2017 King Estate Kennel Chardonnay
-
Tasting Notes
-
The wine is a beautiful golden straw color in the glass. The nose reveals notes of pear, toffee, apple blossom and clove with hints of lemon zest and wet stone. Silky on the entrance, the wine is round and creamy on the mid-palate. Acidity appears on the finish that is long and satisfying, with tannins of toast and oak.

Vineyard Notes
-
Oregon Chardonnay is making a name for itself and this wine is one reason why. Grower Jeremy Kennel’s family has farmed in the Willamette Valley for five generations. Kennel Vineyard was established in 2007 and has been a King Estate vineyard partner since 2010. Consisting of 28 acres, Kennel is considered a warm site, but benefits from coastal breezes and cool nights.

Winemaker Notes
-
After whole-cluster pressing, the wine was fermented primarily in French oak barrels with the balance in stainless steel. The barrel-fermented wine underwent full native malolactic fermentation; there was no malolactic fermentation for the wine in stainless. This wine was aged sur lie for 18 months in French oak, with 20% in our new, large (454 liter) puncheon barrels; the portion fermented in stainless was aged in neutral oak.
