2016 King Estate Tonalita Pinot Noir
-
Tasting Notes
-
On the nose, the wine displays earthen notes of black tea, forest floor, cedar and tobacco leaf. Flavors of currant and raspberry are joined by hints of blueberry, rose water, toast and vanilla on the palate. The entrance is round and smooth, leading to a structured coating on the mid-palate and a silky finish.

Vineyard Notes
-
Located in the foothills of the Coast Range west of Monmouth, Oregon, Tonalita Vineyard is planted with two acres of Pinot Noir comprising clones 667 and Pommard. This 14-acre property in the foothills of the Coast Range is owned and farmed by Ray Nuclo, who also serves as King Estate’s Director of Viticulture. This is the first single vineyard wine from Tonalita that King Estate has produced.

Winemaker Notes
-
The site is subject to afternoon winds that cause the grapes to develop thicker skins, resulting in a more tannic wine that benefits from the softening effects of aging. The wine was cold soaked for 48 hours with daily pump overs and fermented in a stainless steel open top tank with twice daily punch downs. Aged 12 months in French oak, 30% new.
