Tasting Notes

The 2008 Blanc de Noirs is the more traditional take on a sparkling wine because it is made with Pinot Noir grapes. In the Champagne region of France the wine is sometimes blended with Meunier or Chardonnay; 99.7% of true Champagne comprises these three grapes. Our version is 100% Pinot Noir. This sparkling wine is a beautiful burnished gold color in the glass. The nose pops with Meyer lemon, hibiscus flowers, fresh herbs, green apples and toasty aromas. The palate has gentle lees characteristics with dulce de leche, hazelnut, anise and lemon. There is finesse to the bubbles with a complex, lingering finish.

Vineyard Notes

King Estate Winery was founded in 1991 with the determination to help Oregon wines find a place among the great wines of the world. 2016 was our 25th year and we commemorated the milestone by bottling this special sparkling wine from the outstanding 2008 vintage.

Winemaker Notes

This wine was made using the méthode champenoise (“champagne method”), the traditional method from the Champagne region in France distinguished by subjecting the wine to a second fermentation en tirage, or in the bottle. The wines were bottled in 2009 and then aged for seven years on the lees prior to riddling and disgorging to remove the lees. The last step in this labor-intensive process is to finish the wine with a liqueur d’expedition to provide the finishing touch before being sealed with the traditional cork and wire cage.
