2022 King Estate Paradox Pinot Gris
-
Tasting Notes
-
A delightful nose on this wine surprises with hints of quince, d’Anjou pear, citrus, toasted marcona almonds, coconut, biscuit and plum blossoms. Classic Pinot Gris flavors of apple, pear and lemon join green grass, toasted almond, coconut and cookie on the palate. Bright fruit combines very well with pleasing toastiness from the short barrel aging. The wine finishes with more toasty barrel notes and lingering coconut creaminess.

Vineyard Notes
-
Paradox is an artisanal small-batch wine made with 100% Biodynamic® grapes from Block 20A in the northwest part of our own estate vineyard. King Estate created this special wine in a spirit of exploration and inquiry. Should oak touch nary a drop of great Pinot Gris? Or should we never say never? For King Estate, a winery that has become synonymous with un-oaked Pinot Gris, this wine is a contradiction – a paradox.

Winemaker Notes
-
The wine is whole cluster pressed, settled, racked (where the wine is drained off the lees that settle to the bottom of the tank), and fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. Aged for three months in French oak barrels, 100% new.
