"Wine makes the feast"

King Estate’s wine portfolio is an abundance of riches, so selecting just a few to serve on Thanksgiving Day wasn’t easy. But these four wines, each made with 100% estate-grown, Biodynamic® fruit, rose to the top of the list like bubbles in our sparkling wine. Assistant Winemaker Leah Lyon describes what each one adds to the feast, pairing them with dishes from Executive Chef Stevie Provencio’s Thanksgiving menu.

2019 King Estate Four Nobles Cuvée Blanc is a blend of the so-called “Four Noble” grapes of the Alsace region in France. Each grape brings its own distinctive attribute to the wine, made up of 38% Pinot Gris, 38% Gewürztraminer, 15% Muscat and 9% Riesling. Pair it with buttery side dishes like Creamy Pomme Purée (whipped potatoes) and Southern Baked Mac and Cheese. The wine is nicely balanced, with beautiful acidity and elegant notes of flowers, fruit and spice bursting on the palate.

2022 King Estate Domaine Pinot Gris showcases a delightful balance between fruit and floral notes and bright minerality. This wine is notable for its ability to enhance the foods it is paired with without overpowering them. Our Domaine Pinot Gris is characterized by high acidity and low tannins that go well with the rich and flavorful foods associated with the Thanksgiving feast. The acidity gives the wine its crispness along with tart notes suggestive of green apples, while the tannins provide smooth texture and a slightly drying sensation in the mouth. This wine will be at its best when paired with the Roasted Turkey Crown and Confit Turkey Legs along with the sides of Sourdough Sausage Stuffing and Corn and Hominy Pudding with Chorizo.

2018 King Estate Domaine Pinot Noir provides a nice complement to the white wines on the table and to the more robust foods that comprise your Thanksgiving dinner such as the Glazed Rosemary Ham and Green Bean and Mushroom Casserole (a classic!). The flavor profile is striking, with notes evocative of the Pacific Northwest: bramble berry, forest floor, hazelnut and spice. Complex and balanced, this is one of our favorite Thanksgiving wines. Be adventurous and taste it with each dish on your plate!

2019 King Estate Brut Cuvée is a classic celebratory wine and the perfect way to begin, and end!, a delicious Thanksgiving meal. The high acidity in this bubbly wine helps cut through rich and creamy foods. More versatile than often thought, this wine pairs well with sweet and savory foods alike. Best of all, this wine can be enjoyed from start to finish – from hors d’oeuvres, through the main meal, to dessert.
