King Estate Chardonnay Gets Recognized

Oregon is gaining a reputation for outstanding Chardonnay, so it was especially gratifying to be included among the Year’s Best Chardonnays from Oregon and Washington by Wine & Spirits Magazine. With a 91-point rating, the 2019 King Estate Chardonnay was one of just eight Chardonnays from the region to make the magazine’s “Best Buys” list, chosen from 314 Chardonnays recommended by Wine & Spirits’ reviewers.

Here’s what wine critic Patrick Comiskey had to say about the 2019 King Estate Chardonnay:

With its scents of pear and lees shadings from (mostly) neutral oak barrels for aging, this reads like a chardonnay from a pinot gris master—which it is. The flavors are fulsome and satisfying, ripe pear and pie crust, a hint of hazelnuts to lend complexity. And a steal for the price.”

This wine is among those invited to be featured at the Oregon Chardonnay Celebration in Newberg on Feb. 26, 2022. Recently King Estate planted an acre of Chardonnay on the estate just north of the winery building (pictured below). The fruit is destined for our sparkling wine program.
