Tasting Notes

In the Grand Cru vineyards of Alsace, the French government requires that wines be made from the “noble grapes” native to the region: Pinot Gris, Riesling, Muscat and Gewürztraminer. These varietals, known for making aromatic, crisp and dry white wines. Citrus, melon, spice and honey greet the nose and the palate picks up additional notes of pear, apple, peach, wet stone and lychee. The finish is true to the wines of Alsace with a dry, crisp acidity cut through with just enough roundness from sur-lie aging to create a balanced mouthfeel and a satisfyingly long finish. Our cool climate creates perfect growing conditions for these four noble grapes and pays tribute to the beautiful wines of Alsace.

Vineyard Notes

King Estate Winery is certified by Demeter USA as the largest Biodynamic vineyard in the United States and has been certified organic since 2002. King Estate is situated on primarily two kinds of soil: Bellpine, a marine sedimentary soil and Jory, a volcanic soil. The large daily temperature swings of up to 35 degrees, for which western Oregon is known, serve to enhance flavor development in grapes and balance acidity levels. Elevations range from 700 to just over 1,100 feet with varying slope facings.

Winemaker Notes

The fruit was whole cluster pressed and cool fermented in stainless steel with some varieties co-fermenting. One lot was Biodynamically allowed to ferment with native yeast. Sur lie aged for six months in stainless steel tanks.
