2016 King Estate Sonrisa Tempranillo

Tasting Notes

Deep brick red in the glass, this wine is brimming with summer fruit flavors like strawberry jam and blueberry pie. Leather, slate, clove and slate join in on the palate. Round and rich entrance leads to weight and very lengthy tannins on the mid-palate. This wine finishes with the iconic dusty tannins commonly found in Rioja Tempranillos.

Vineyard Notes

Sonrisa Vineyard sits at a slightly higher altitude than its surrounding growing regions. Because of this, the vineyard is located in an area that is slightly cooler than many Columbia Valley growing regions. As the principal grape of Rioja, Tempranillo has become known for full-bodied wines, with flavors tending toward blueberry, leather and clove.

Winemaker Notes

The fruit was cold soaked, punched down and pumped over, then fermented in stainless steel open top tanks. Aged 21 months, 50% new oak (34% French, 33% American, 33% Hungarian).
