Tasting Notes
-
The wine is dark brick red in color. On the nose discover aromatics of cranberry, clove, cinnamon, allspice, forest floor, rhubarb, caramel, toast and lavender. Those flavors continue on the palate, joined by raspberry, slate, tea, dry flowers and tobacco leaf. Tight tannins with balanced acidity and round mouthfeel lead to a delicate yet structured finish.

Vineyard Notes
-
Each vintage, our winemakers ferment and age individual blocks and vineyards separately until they are blended. The 2015 Backbone Pinot Noir is composed of fruit from these stalwart Willamette Valley producers: King Estate, Bradshaw, Pfeiffer, Fern Hill and Nicholas. Each vineyard contributes unique nuances and character to this blend, making this wine more than just the sum of its parts. The exceptional fruit coming from these storied vineyards provides the backbone for our King Estate Willamette Valley wines.

Winemaker Notes
-
After the fruit is destemmed and cold soaked, it is fermented in stainless steel open top tanks with twice daily punch downs and pump overs. The wine underwent full malolactic fermentation in barrel after primary fermentation. Aged 14 months in French oak, 26% new.
