Tasting Notes

This wine has a pale straw color with toasty aromas accented by hints of mineral, vanilla, caramel and candied orange. On the palate, enjoy flavors of citrus, hazelnut, anise and lemon. Crisp acidity and tiny bubbles lead to a pleasant round finish.

Vineyard Notes

King Estate Blanc de Gris was made entirely from grapes grown on our estate. Certified Biodynamic and organic, King Estate is situated on primarily two kinds of soil: Bellpine, a marine sedimentary soil and Jory, a volcanic soil. The large daily temperature swings of up to 35 degrees, for which western Oregon is known, serve to enhance flavor development in grapes and balance acidity levels. Elevations range from 700 to just over 1,100 feet with varying slope facings.

Winemaker Notes

Fermentation was by méthode champenoise (“champagne method”), meaning the wine undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle. The base wine was fermented till dryness, then tirage fermented in bottle. Aged en tirage sur lie for 26 months prior to riddling and disgorging, then finished with a liqueur d’expedition, an elixir of white wine that provides the sugar necessary to instigate the second fermentation.
